Location Hankow is located in Hubei Province in China. Located on the northwest bank of the Yangtze River north of the Hanshui River is Hankow (Hankou). To the south is Hanyang 漢陽 on the west bank of the Yangtze River. Wuchang is located on the southeast n bank of the Yangtze River, opposite the mouth of the Han River. Prewar The Pinghan railroad connected Hankow to Peking (Bejing). Wartime History Hankow was an industrial town. Occupied by the Japanese for the duration of the Pacific War until the official surrender of Japan. American missions against Hankow July 1, 1942–August 2, 1945 Postwar During 1949 the three cities: Wuchang, Hankow (Hankou) and Hanyang merged to form Wuhan.
