(RAAF) Catalina flying boats from Rabaul flying via Kavieng bomb Truk. Lost during takeoff from Kavieng is PBY Catalina A24-11 (MIA).

April 12, 1942
(IJN) Taijun Maru accidentally catches fire and sinks into Truk Lagoon.

April 22, 1944
(13th AF) During the night of 22/23 April, seventeen B-24s bomb targets at Truk.

February 3, 1944
USMC: During the night of February 3, 1944 two PB4Y-1 Liberators from VMD-254 piloted by Major Christensen and Captian Yawn took off from Stirling Airfield on a photographic reconassiance of Truk on a 12 hour flight.

February 4, 1944
USMC: On February 4, 1944 during the early morning over Truk at an altitude of 23,000' they spot and photograph Musashi, a carrier, cruisers, destroyers, submarines and many other cargo vessels. Cloud cover prevented complete photographic coverage of the entire Truk Lagoon area. Spotted, the Japanese Combined Fleet warships will depart Truk by February 10, 1944. Afterwards, their photographs are processed by the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) at Pearl Harbor for photo interpretation and ship designers review the huge battleship suggest that she must displace at least 60,000 tons and was armed with 18" inch guns. The photographs taken are used in the planning for Operation Hailstone.

February 10, 1944
IJN: Combined Fleet warships Musashi with Oyodo escorted by destroyers Hatsuharu, Michishio, Shiratsuyu and Tamanami depart Truk bound for Yokosuka after being spotted by two PB4Y-1 Liberators on a photographic reconassiance February 3, 1944. Musashi is the last IJN battleship to depart Truk.

February 16, 1944
(USN) On the first day of "Operation Hailstone" carrier aircraft catch a fleet of Japanese merchant vessels and warships by surprise attack aganist Truk Lagoon. 400 tons of bombs and torpedo rained down on the lightly defended base. After a day of attacks, forty ships and thousands of men went to the bottom. USN carrier aircraft claim 200 enemy aircraft and 20 ships including Gyoraitei No.10.

February 17, 1944

(USN) In the second day of "Operation Hailstone" carrier aircraft catch a fleet of Japanese merchant vessels and warships by surprise in Truk Lagoon. 400 tons of bombs and torpedo rained down on the base. The U.S. claims 200 enemy aircraft destroyed and 20 ships sunk. Sunk are: Gosei Maru, Fujiyama Maru, Hoki Maru, Fujikawa Maru, Hoyo Maru, Tachikaze, Aikoku Maru, Nagano Maru (partial list). Lost is TBM-1C Avenger 25270 (MIA).

(7th AF) B-24s from Kwajalein fly the first Seventh Air Force mission against Truk before dawn hitting Dublon and Eten.

March 26, 1944
(7th AF) Twenty-four B-24s on a mission against Truk fail to reach the target and instead bomb an alternate target.

March 28, 1944
(7th AF) B-24s flying a night mission from Kwajalein bomb targets at Truk.

March 29, 1944
(13th AF) B-24s of the 307th Bombardment Group carry out the first daylight raid on Truk bombing Eten Airfield; the mission is staged from Munda, through Torokina for arming and Nissan for refueling before the strike; the unescorted B-24s claim 31 interceptors destroyed, along with almost 50 aircraft on the ground; two B-24s are lost including B-24J 42-73466 (MIA).

March 30, 1944
(7th AF) B-24s from Kwajalein and Eniwetok hit Truk before dawn.
(13th AF) During the night, two B-24s fly a snooper strike against Truk. During the day, eleven B-24s fly a long-range strike against Moen in Truk; the B-24s score damaging hits on Moen Airfield and claim 11 fighters shot down; Lost is B-24D "Fuzzy Wuzzy" 42-40752 (MIA).

(USN) Second Carrier Strike on Truk by Task Force 58 (TF-58) under the command of Vice Admiral M. A. Mitscher returned to Majuro after the Hollandia operation then launched a two day attack on enemy installations and supply dumps at Truk. In addition to damage ashore, three small ships were sunk and 145 enemy aircraft destroyed.
