Map of "Operation Olympic" the planned U. S. invasion of southern Japan
The first phase of the operation, "Operation Olympic" was scheduled for November 1, 1945 and would be under the overall command of U. S. Army Forces Pacific General Douglas MacArthur as Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers (SCAP). "Operation Olympic" would be under the command of U. S. Army 6th Army General Walter Krueger including I Corps, IX Corps and the U. S. Marine Corps (USMC) V Amphibious Corps. Indicated is X-Day landings at Miyazaki, Ariake, and Kushikino with limit of advance indicated on the southern half of Kyūshū Island. A diversionary landing was planned for southern Shikoku Island. Also indicated is the staging base on Okinawa Island. Due to the surrender of Japan, Operation Downfall and Operation Olympic never happened.
