North Iwo Jima (Kita Iwo Jima, Kita-Iōtō, 北硫黄島) Ogasawara Subprefecture Japan

North Iwo Jima is the northernmost island of the Volcano Islands Group of the Ogasawara Islands. North Iwo Jima is located 80 km north of Iwo Jima (Iwo To), 1170 km south of Tokyo and 207 km south-southwest of Chi Chi Jima.

Wartime History
The island was first occupied by settlers from the Izu Islands starting in 1889 who established Ishinomura (east) and Nishimura (west). Prewar, the island's civilian population was 103 inhabitants, who were evacuated during the Pacific War. North Iwo Jima was unincorporated territory until 1940, when it became part of Iōtō municipality.

After the surrender of Japan, North Iwo Jima was under American mandate. Returned to Japan in 1968, it became part of Ogasawara Subprefecture.
