The Republic of the Maldives is located in the Laccadive Sea in the Indian Ocean. Located 250 miles southwest of India and 430 miles southwest of Sri Lanka (Ceylon). The Maldive Islands includes twenty-six atolls, oriented north-south, that lie between Minicoy Island (the southernmost part of Lakshadweep, India) and the Chagos Archipelago.

Located in the southern Maldives includes the Addu Atoll, Huvadhu Atoll and Fuvahmulah Island.
