    Kassam Eastern Highlands Province Papua New Guinea (PNG)
Lat 6° 13' 0S Long 146° 1' 0E  Kassam is located at an elevation of 3,523' / 1,073m in the Highlands of New Guinea. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in the Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea (PNG). The Highlands Highway spans this area from northeast to southwest.

Kassam Pass
The Kassam Pass is a mountain pass area of the Highlands Highway at Kassam that connects the Markham Valley to the northeast to the Highlands to southwest. This road was build during the 1950s by the Australian administration by the Department of District Services and Native Affairs led by chief engineer Rupert Roelof Haviland. The road begins at the end of the Markham Valley and rises from a altitude of 4,921' / 1,500m over a distance of approximately 6.2 miles / 10 kilometers through the Kassam Pass ending at the Yonki Dam. Roughly halfway up the road is a concrete memorial with a plaque dedicated to Rupert Roelof Haviland.
