Location Lat 4° 24' 0S Long 152° 22' 0E Makurapau is located to the north of Wide Bay on the southern coast of New Britain near the junction of the Powell River and Mavelo Rivers (Henry Reid River). Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the New Britain District in Territory of New Guinea. Today part of East New Britain Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Prewar Makurapau Plantation was established near this location and planted with coconut palms harvesting copra. Wartime History During early February 1942, the area was occupied by the Japanese Army. By early March 1945 the area was under the control of the Australian Army. B-17E "Why Don't We Do This More Often" 41-2429 Pilot Pease crashed August 7, 1942 discovered 1946 References Makurapau is not to be confused with Makurapau Plantation (Rondahls Plantation) on the Gazelle Peninsula.
