Nateara Reef is a fringing coral reef to the south of Fairfax Harbor, Walter Bay and Joyce Bay, spanning from roughly east to Port Moresby and west to Pari. On the western end is the Basilisk Passage and beyond Sinavi Reef and Fishermans Island further to the west.

To aid in navigation, Basilisk Passage was marked with the Basilisk Light also known as Basilisk Beacon to mark the edge of marking the edge of Nateara Reef. This marker remained in use during the Pacific War.

SS Pruth (Moresby Wreck)
Grounded January 1924. During the Pacific War, the shipwreck was bombed by Japanese bombers on at least two occasions. Six Allied Aircraft were lost attacking the shipwrecks killing 20 Allied personnel between November 10, 1942 to September 29, 1943.
