    Sepik River Angoram District | East Sepik Province Papua New Guinea (PNG)

The Sepik River is one of New Guinea's largest rivers. The mouth of the river is located on the north coast of New Guinea to the east of Wewak. Wartime villages along the Sepik River include: Angoram (Angorum), Marienburg (Marienberg), Moim, Timbunke and Murik Lakes.

Wartime History
During 1944, retreating and starving Japanese troops crossed the Sepik River and the massive swamp area surrounding the river on their way from points along the north coast in an attempt to walk to Wewak.
