Location
Upolu Island is located in the Samoa (Western Samoa, British Samoa) at the western end of the Samoa Island Group (Samoa Islands). The island is roughly forty miles long and thirteen miles wide. To the northwest is Savaii Island (Savai'i). To the east is the International Date Line and border with American Samoa. Further to the east roughly 36 miles away is Tutuila Island.

Wartime History
On March 28, 1942 the U. S. Marine Corps (USMC) 7th Defense Battalion arrived on Upolu Island.

Apia
Located on the northern coast of Upolu Island. Today, capital of Samoa.

Faleolo
Located on the northwest coast of Upolu Island.

Faleolo Airfield
Completed July 1942 still in use today
