    Dragons Peninsula (Dragon Point) New Georgia | Western Province Solomon Islands

Dragons Peninsula is located on the north coast of New Georgia Island. Known to the Japanese as "Dragon Point". Borders Bauroko (Bairoko) and Bauroko Harbor to the west, Leland Lagoon to the northeast, Kula Gulf to the north and Enogai and Enogai Inlet to the east. The feature includes several low elevation hills and swamps. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the British Solomon Islands. Today located in Western Province in the Solomon Islands.

Wartime History
During 1942, occupied by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN). During the middle of 1943, the Japanese built defenses in this area anticipating a landing in the area or attack by American forces. In July 1943 defended by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) Kure 6th Special Naval Landing Force (6th SNLF) commanded by Commander Saburo Okumura. The advancing U. S. Marines from the 1st Raiders were stopped to the east of Bauroko (Bairoko)on the Dragons Peninsula by strong Japanese defenses including heavy mortars that stopped their advance.
