Location
Lat 9° 4' 60S Long 159° 11' 60E Renard Sound is located in the Russell
Islands Group (Russell Islands). Borders Banika Island and the Sunlight Channel and beyond Pavuvu Island.
Wartime History
During 1943, Renard Sound was used as a seaplane operating area. By late February 1943, the southern edge of Banika Field (North Field, Sunlight) was located to the north of Renard Sound. A ferry was established from the southern end of the runway 31 across the Renard Sound to Renard Field (South Field, Yandina).
