On May 5, 1945 killed by the explosion of a Japanese balloon bomb in the forest near Bly in Oregon along with four other children plus Mrs. Elsie Mitchell who was 26 and pregnant. This was the only fatalities caused by a Japanese balloon bomb in the United States
