Lat 21° 1' 60N Long 105° 50' 60E  Hanoi is part of the Hanoi Capital Region or Hanoi Metropolitan Area in the Red River Delta Region in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Also spelled Hà Nội, Ha No or Keicho. To the east is Co Bi (Cổ Bi) in the Gia Lâm District (Gia Lam, Gialam). Prewar and during the Pacific War, Hanoi was part of Indochina (French Indochina).

Wartime History
On September 26, 1940 Hanoi was occupied by the Japanese the duration of the Pacific War until the official surrender of Japan. During late 1942 until late 1945, Hanoi was attacked by American aircraft including fighters and bombers.
