Ship History
Built by Kure Navy Yard at Kure. Laid down December 14, 1936 as a seaplane carrier/tender. Launched November 19, 1937. Assigned to Captain Mizui Seiji as the Chief Equipping Officer and later as captain. Commissioned December 15, 1938. Assigned to Captain Kaku Tomeo. This vessel was equipped with four catapults and carries a complement of E7K2 Alf and E8N2 Dave floatplanes. Her aircraft are coded "5-xx".

Wartime History
During 1939, departs for China with Kamoi.


Sinking History
On October 25, 1944 sunk during the Battle of Cape Engano.
