Ship History On October 24, 1942 departed Shortland as part of No. 2 Attack Unit with Rear Admiral Tamotsu Takama's flagship Akizuki, Harusame, Murasame and Yudachi. on a mission to bombard Guadalcanal in support of Japanese Army General Hyakutake offensive on Guadalcanal. Sinking History After being hit, the bombardment mission was cancelled while Harusame and Yudachi rescued the surviving crew then scuttled the damaged cruiser at roughly Lat 08°15′S Long 159°07′E in the Indispensable Strait off Santa Isabelle Island.
