Australian
War Memorial
This enormous museum is one
of the best military museums in the world. It covers Australia's
rich military history throughout history, and is home to
many unique artifacts from WWI, WWII to present day conflicts.
In addition to the museum, it is also a functioning archives,
with an collection of records and photo gallery that is
accessible to anyone, even walk-ins from the museum, or
through the AWM Website
WWII Pacific Collection
Contains numerous displays and artifacts. Of particular
interest, is the tail section of one of the Japanese midge
submarines that attacked Sydney Harbor, and relics from
it. Also, a Stuart tank from the Buna / Gona Campaign.
WWII Pacific Aircraft Wing
This section opened after I visited in August 2000. See
Daniel Leahy's section
for complete photographs and information on the aircraft
currently displayed there.
