Tatana
Island
Port Moresby
Tatana
Island is inside Fairfax Harbor. The US built a causeway to. This is where many Libery Ships docked
and were unloaded.
The Causeway was built by the
US military, and was one vehicle wide. In post war years, it was expaneded. There
was the remain of what looked like a floating dry dock on the shore of the island,
but I can not be sure if it was war related, or postwar scrap.
Although
there is no evidence of the docks (village built there), or any reminants of the
war, every hut had some marston matting, 55 gallon drums or metal, curtesy of
the US Goverment! The children were most excited to see me, and show me all the
bits of interest.
