C-47
Dakota Wreckage
Hidden in the Kunai grass is this wreck of an abandoned C-47 that
was passed up by post war scrappers. Today it is nothing more
than a hulk, but Frank remembers growing up and sitting in the
cockpit and playing with the controls.
A side view of the C-47 shows how well camouflaged
it is in the kunai grass. The fuselage has had many aluminum chunks
hammered out, but the profile of this classic aircraft is clearly
visible. Planes like this carried troops and supplies all over
the Pacific.
This is a nose view of the C-47. Although overgrown
with 12 foot tall kunai grass, the cockpit and pilot windows are
still clearly visible.
