Communication
Bunker
The Rabaul Communication bunker is another spacious
underground bunker, with a limited above ground profile. This
bunker was the communication nerve center for Rabaul town during
the war.
Bullet and Bomb Damage
The
doorway facade of the bunker is pot marked with bullet holes and bomb blasts,
probably from aerial attacks. Despise the obvious pounding, the interior is undamaged
and unaffected.
Entry Way and Staircases
A
double set of staircases, for quick entry into the bunker leads down into the
large main chamber.
Film Reels & Printing Press
The floor is coated with mud from the ash and rainwater. The
inside of the bunker is littered with empty film canisters. On one side of the
bunker is even a full sized printing press. Half way submerged
in sticky mud in 2000.
