Mission Hill (Boy's Town)
Mission Hill is the property of the Catholic Church

The memorial reads in Japanese and English:
"In memory of the brave soldiers who paid the supreme sacrifice for their countries Japan, Australia American and New Guinea during World War 2 From 1941-1945. We sincerely hope that or men will never again engage in war but that a deep spirit of friendship may exist between all"

Intense fighting occurred on this high ground at the end of the war, and this post has a bullet hole through it. Australian Pte Edward Kenna earned the Victorian Cross on May 15, 1945 at this location.

There are many Japanese dugouts and small tunnels in the area. The bush has the hulks of several vehicles, like these Australian Lorries that were abandoned here. Over the years, remains of rifles, helmets and other relics have been found in the area although most are gone now.
