Muschu Island

Interview George Maiet & Michael Sumari
Runs a small guest house on the island. He does dives in the surrounding reefs and was our guide about the WWII history of his island, and allowed us to interview his father.

Japanese Naval Guns
The island has two large Naval guns carefully concealed in the deep jungle.

Japanese veteran Tetsuo Watanabe:
"I incited Commander Otomo of an artillery unit to fire our 12-centimeter guns, but got the blunt reply, 'If we fire one shell, the enemy would discover our location and return a thousand shells. So we cannot fire.' His guns were still not fired at the end of the war."

Trans-Muschu Road
The only road on the island was built by the Japanese. No vehicles are on the island today, but it is an eerie reminder of occupation

Bristol Beaufighter Wreckage
The twisted remains of violent crash site have the tell tale signs of a high speed, high RPM crash that completely destroyed the plane but left the propeller blades unbent and intact.
