Wartime History
On June 17, 1944 returning from a bombing mission, the crew of eleven from B-24D "Dropsnoot" 42-41246 bailed out over the Hermit Islands and landed in rough seas with white caps in an area approximately two miles wide to the southeast of Jalun Island. Four of the crew were never seen again and likely drown. The other seven were aided by friendly natives and cared for until rescued.
