Location
Disappointment Cove borders the southeast coast of Kolombangara Island. Borders Vila (Vila Point) and Vila Airfield to the west and Stanmore Plantation to the north. The cove is enclosed by Kolombangara Island on all sides with a narrow entrance into Blackett Strait to the south. Offshore to the south is Sasamboki Island (Devil's Island). Also known as Vila Harbor or Hamberi Cove or Jack Harbor.

Wartime History
During 1943 occupied by the Japanese and used as an anchorage for barges and small ships unloading at Vila (Vila Point). Borders Japanese bivouac areas to the north and supply areas to the northeast. Anti-aircraft guns were emplaced to the east, south and west. A causeway was located at the southern entrance.
