Rochester Democrat & Chronicle "Lost Corporal Listed Dead"
"Cpl Carl J. Palermo, 23 son of Mrs. Angelina Palermo, 17 Seventh St., has been presumed dead [gunner aboard A-20G 43-21622] by the War Department, according to word to his mother. He was reported missed in action Jan. 20, 1945 when the attack bomber on which he was gunner failed to return from a mission over Wewak, New Guinea. A graduate of Edison Technical High School, he was employed by the Hoffman Music Shop before entering the service in August 1943. Besides his mother, he is survived by two brothers: Frank, recently discharged from the Army and Pfc Ross, a patient in Valley Forge General Hospital recovering from wounds suffered Jan 23, 1945 in France and two sisters, Nancy and Marie Palermo of Rochester. A memorial mass will be offered at 10 a. m. Mar 16 in St. Francis Xavier Church."
