Wartime History This Zero crashed south of Ambasi on the north coast of New Guinea. Wreckage This Zero crashed upside down and broken into several pieces, with the main undercarriage wheel extended. John Douglas visited this site in 1998: "This Zero is located north of the Opi River in a garden about 50 meters inland. The villagers say they buried the pilot near the wreck. The plane had burned. I had another zero wreck also reported to me a few miles to the north, also on a beach, but near the high water mark. this was buried in sand, so I couldn't photograph it."
