Aircraft History Built by Mitsubishi or Nakajima. At the factory, painted overall gray with a black cowling. Wartime History Assigned to the 2nd Kōkūtai (2nd Air Group). The rear fuselage had a single chevron "<" between the Hinomaru (Rising Sun) and the tail. This Zero was abandoned at Lae Airfield with the engine removed. Wreckage On September 16, 1943 this Zero was captured by the Allies. Later, moved into a boneyard area with other Japanese planes.
