Aircraft History
Built by Mitsubishi, estimated date of assembly July 1943. Assigned to ? Kokutai.

Wartime History
Transported to Rabaul during mid-1943 and assigned to ? Kōkūtai. Flown from Rabaul to Bougainville. It was left damaged, abandoned or unserviceable at Kara Airfield (Toripoil).

As a morale boosting exercise for the 60-70 maintenance personnel at the airfield a composite Zero was repaired, using spare parts from many Zeros abandoned at the airfield, including the tail section of 3844.

Using the front section of this Zero, they repaired A6M3 Zero 3844 to flyable condition by July 1945.
