Background
The Avro Anson was developed from the Avro 652. Designed in 1934 and first entired service in 1936. The Avro Anson was the first retractable undercarriage, low wing monoplane, and served in great numbers with the Royal Air Force (RAF) and Fleet Air Arm and Commonwealth countries. The last RAF Anson was retired on June 28, 1968.
Australia received a total of 1,026 Ansons starting in 1936 assigned to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) but retained their RAF serial numbers. Canada received a total of 1,528 assigned to the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). Rhodesia received a total of 79 and New Zealand received a total of 23.
