Aircraft History Built by Taylorcraft Aeroplanes Limited in the United Kingdom as Auster Mark III. Constructors Number 409. Assigned Royal Air Force (RAF) serial number NK123. Disassembled and loaded as cargo departing the United Kingdom bound for Australia. Arrived at Sydney on September 17, 1944. Wartime History During September 1944, delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). On October 5, 1944 assigned serial number A11-3. On October 9, 1944 assigned to 2 Air Depot (2 AD). On November 9, 1944 assigned to No. 17 Air Observation Post Flight (17 AOP) and operated in Bougainville. Mission History On April 4, 1945 this aircraft suffered an accident landing at Vernon Airfield on southwest Bougainville. During the landing, the landing gear was deemed to be 100% damaged and the airframe 9% damaged. Afterwards, written off and on February 7, 1946 officially converted to components.
