Aircraft History Built by Boeing at Seattle. Constructors Number 2687. On May 22, 1942 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-17E Flying Fortress serial number 41-9215 and the same day flown to Cheyenne. Later, flown to Hickam Field. Wartime History Assigned to the 11th Bombardment Group (11th BG), 98th Bombardment Squadron (98th BS). Nicknamed "California" and later "Gallopin' Gus". Flown across the Pacific to the South Pacific (SOPAC). This B-17 force landed and was damaged. Officially written off June 15, 1944.
