SSgt P. Hoffeoker of Dover, Delaware in the cockpit of B-17E "Honi Kuu Okole" 41-9244 parked at 7 Mile Drome near Port Moresby
The left side of the nose has the nickname "Honi Kuu Okole" in block letters with a scoreboard including eighteen Japanese rising sun flags in two rows (10x8) and seven silhouettes of ships. Below the pilot's window were bomb markings in two rows indicating missions flown. Below is a row of Purple Hearts inside a white rectangle indicating crew members who were wounded aboard the bomber on combat missions and earned the Purple Heart. A censor has cut out portions of the photograph that appear as white areas including the navigator's window and the U.S. Army Air Force serial number stencil has been scratched out.
