B-17E "Bitch Kitty" loading supplies for U.S. soldiers on Guadalcanal
This photograph was likely taken at Bomber 1 on Espiritu Santo. At the center is cargo possibly with a parachute for air drop. Behind the bomb bay doors are open for loading cargo. The life side of the nose has the pitot tube and areas of olive drab paint repainted. A rectangular repair repainted is visible below the co-pilot window. In the forward navigator window is the barrel of a .30 caliber machine gun in a gun socket.
