B-24D "Scorpion" 41-24073 salvage from the beach near Buna
Wartime caption: "Will Fly Again: New Guinea... Damaged, but not before accomplishing 36 successful bombing missions, in a crash landing on northeast New Guinea after running out of fuel. This B-24 bomber is being dissembled by salvage crews. 85 percent of the plane will be usable again. Painted planes on side of the bomber indicate the number of aircraft brought down by crew."
