This photograph was taken of the crew after completing training in the 2nd Sea Search Attack Squadron, 1st Sea Search Attach Group. Afterward, crews were assigned to the "Super Snoopers" 43rd Bombardment Group, 63rd Bombardment Squadron in New Guinea to fly night missions with radar for anti-shipping strikes.

On December 3, 1943 this crew (with the exception of Turner) went Missing In Action (MIA) aboard B-24D 42-40475 in B-24D "The Swan" 42-40475 in New Guinea. Note, Pvt. Joseph Thompson and Ronald F. Ward were in addition to the crew pictured in this photo. Thanks to Patty Chuck, niece of Albert Caruso for the correction on photo caption names, incorrect on the original.
