Aircraft History Built by Consolidated. Constructors Number 2005. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-24D-115-CO Liberator serial number 42-40928. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 90th Bombardment Group (90th BG), 400th Bombardment Squadron (400th BS). Nicknamed "Dirty Gertie" and later renamed "Twin Niftes II" (left) and "Twin Niftys II" (right) with nose art depicting a topless cow girl sitting on a fence. Named in after B-24D "Twin Nifty's" 42-40348 crashed August 17, 1943. This B-24 flew extensive bombing mission in New Guinea and operating from Hollandia Airfield. When USO performers visited Hollandia, they signed the left side of the nose, including Brooks, Gary Cooper, Una Merkel and Andy Arnold. This B-24 was scrapped December 13, 1944.
