B-24D Liberator 42-40972 tail with serial number "0972" and rudder fabric
Visible is the yellow stenciled "0972" part of the full serial number 42-40972. At the upper edge of the tail (left of photo) is a yellowish discoloration from where the bomber's deicer boot was attached. At the rear of the tail (upper edge of photo) is the teal-colored rudder fabric, incredibly intact 61 years after the crash.
