Aircraft History Built by Consolidated at San Diego. Constructors Number 5564. On October 11, 1944 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-24L-10-CO Liberator serial number 44-41628 and flown to Tucson, Arizona. The next day flown to Long Beach, California then to Hamilton Field. Assigned Project Number 96786-R. On October 22, 1944 took off from Fairfield Airfield on a ferry flight via Hickam Field across the Pacific to Australia arriving November 1, 1944. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF). Mission History On December 5, 1944 took off on a mission. This B-24 crashed or ditched northeast of Goold Island to the north of Hinchinbrook Island. Officially condemned due to accident. Wreckage Possibly, the wreckage a B-24 off Hinchinbrook Island is this aircraft.
