Report by Mike Lee:
"I revisted the restoration, and included
a new photo gallery of photos, taken March 3, 2001 The wing extentions
are brand new, donated by a lady who lives near Sale (eastern
Victoria) and were in their original boxes! They were slightly
damaged when they fell out of the boxes while loading onto transport.
The vertical rear stabilisers were made from
patterns taken from originals as they were in poor condition.
Generally the Restorers have used thicker aluminium (not necessarily
aircraft quality) to repair/construct parts. This has allowed
stronger more robust sections as certain items have been moved
around, onto and off the B24 for fitting trials etc.
One photo shows the original wing (cw corrosion)
with new new leading edge attached. Quite an amount of work is
happening on the gun turrets at the moment. One engine is sitting
in an original radial maintenance rig, being rebuilt. Those guys
(& gals) out there are doing a fine job out there, however
funds always seem short."
