OHIO U.S.A. 45433
Dear Sir,
I have recently come across the remains of an American B-25D Mitchell bomber, located south east of Dagua Airfield, in N.W. New Guinea.
I have enclosed the identity tag which was found in the wreckage. It reads as follows:
U.S. Army
Air Corps
Type
B-25D
Serial No.
AC 41-30074
Order No.
AC-19341
Date Accepted
12 28 42
The aircraft is very broken up and is unrecognizable at first sight but is nevertheless all there. Maybe there is an Air Force ex-serviceman's organization in America that may have a special desire for souvenirs from this wreckage. If so, all that remains is the starboard joystick the tail gun and port-side machine gun. The twin turret guns also appear to be there, however all guns are pretty rusty but could be restored.
I hope this information may be of interest to you. I would appreciate any information that you could give me regarding the aircraft and the fate of its crew, particularly if some of the crew are still living.
Yours sincerely,
David Pennefather
Asst. District Officer
