Abilene Reporter News "Rites Monday for Aspermont Airman Executed by Japs"
"Aspermont, Oct. 11, (RNS) Memorial services for Sgt Hugh 'Hap' Anderson, who was executed by the Japanese in Guinea Aug. 31. 143, will be held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Aspermont First Methodist Church.
No funeral services have ever been held for Sgt.
Anderson, who is a son of Mrs. H. W. Anderson of Aspermont.
He was the
crew leader [radio operator] of a B-25 Mitchell bomber, reported shot down over Japanese-held territory Aug. 5, 1943.
No further word was heard from him until during the War Crimes trials it was brought out where and when he and four other crew members of the B-25 were executed.
He was inducted into the service in October 1941, and trained at Biloxi, Miss and Scott Field, Mo. Prior to his execution he had received the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters and the Purple Heart. Since then Air Force officials other awards posthumously to his mother.
The body will arrive by train in Sagerton Sunday at 7:30 p.m. and will be brought from there to
Aspermont in a Springer Funeral Home coach.
Conducting the service be the Rev. H. D. Seago, pastor of the Aldergate Methodist Church in Ablene, a close friend to the family. Rev Marvin Meneffe, Aspermont First Baptist Church pastor will have charge f graveside rites.
The Rev. Smith is also the American Legion Chaplin. Members of the Harris-Hentenberger Post No. 590 will be pallbearers.
Anderson is survived by his mother and four brothers, Roy Anderson."
