Japanese personnel ready B5N2 Kate Tail 302 at Vunakanau Airfield near Rabaul
Likely, this photo was taken on either September 18, 1945 or October 14, 1945 before the final flight to Jacquinot Bay Airfield to surrender the aircraft. Japanese Navy personnel are pushing the aircraft into position. In the foreground is a Japanese Navy person wearing sun glasses and a summer cap. Standing on the left wing is another Japanese Navy person wearing a blue winter cap assisting the pilot who is wearing goggles and a flight cap. The cockpit, observer and rear gunner canopy are each in the open position. The foot steps and hand holds are extended for each canopy. Although captioned August 1945, this photograph was likely taken during September 1945 or October 1945.
