B5N2 Kate Tail 302 cockpit at Vunakanau Airfield near Rabaul
Likely, this photo was taken on either September 18, 1945 or October 14, 1945 before the final flight to Jacquinot Bay Airfield to surrender the aircraft. Standing on the left wing is another Japanese Navy person wearing a blue winter cap assisting the pilot who is wearing goggles and a flight cap. The cockpit, observer and rear gunner canopy are each in the open position. The foot steps and hand holds are extended for each canopy.
