Aircraft History Built by Aichi Kōkūki Kabushiki Kaisha (Aichi Aircraft Company, Limited). Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as B7A2 Ryusei (Grace) manufacture number 816. Other sources state this aircraft was manufacture Number 2. Tail code Sho-816. Wartime History Wartime history unknown, possibly assigned to either the Yokosuka Kōkūtai (Yokosuka Air Group) or 752 Kōkūtai (752 Air Group) and operated land based from Japan and survived until the end of the Pacific War. Postwar During September 1945, surrendered intact to U.S. forces and shipped to the United States. Tested by the U.S. Navy (USN), the plane was painted with a U.S. Star and bar insignia for technical evaluation and assigned code T2 / FE-1204. Afterwards, disassembled and placed into storage. Over the years, the wings were either lost or scrapped leaving only the fuselage. Storage In 1963, the fuselage was transfered to the National Air & Space Museum (NAMS) and assigned inventory number A19630360000 and placed into storage at the Paul E. Garber Facility. During the museum's restoration of the M6A1 Seiran 1600228, used as a reference for construction techniques. Today this aircraft remains in storage and is not on public display. This plane is the only known Grace worldwide. Only accessible to visitors during special tours or appointments.
