Aircraft History Built by the Department of Aircraft Production (DAP) at Fishermans Bend in Melbourne. Wartime History Delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as Beaufighter Mark 21 serial number A8-55. On October 26, 1944 assigned to 1 Air Depot (1 AD). On November 29, 1944 returned to Department of Aircraft Production (DAP) for replacement of fuel lines. On December 4, 1944 returned to 1 Air Depot (1 AD). On January 3, 1945 to 26 Repair Salvage Unit (26 RSU). On January 6, 1945 assigned to No. 22 Squadron with code DU-K. No known nickname or nose art. This Beaufighter operated from Sanga Sanga Airfield. When lost, engines serial numbers 115499 and 1155100. Mission History On June 5, 1945 during take off from Sanga Sanga Airfield piloted by F/Lt Ralph S. Ind with navigator F/Sgt Roger C. Blunt this aircraft swung off the runway colliding with three RAAF P-40 Kittyhawks and caught fire and was destroyed. Afterwards, the engine failure was attribute to the use of a new standard of oil.
