Pilot 2nd Lt. Eugene P. Madole, O-007013 USMC (MIA / KIA) MIA June 4, 1942 Aircraft History Built by Brewster Aeronautical Corporation. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as F2A-3 Buffalo bureau number 01548. Wartime History Assigned to the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC), Marine Fighting Squadron 221 (VMF-221) with code MF-2. No known nickname or nose art. On December 25, 1941 fourteen F2A-3 Buffalos took off from USS Saratoga (CV-3) and landed at Midway Airfield. Mission History On June 4, 1942 took off from Midway Airfield piloted by 2nd Lt. Eugene P. Madole during the Battle of Midway on an interception mission. When this aircraft failed to return it was officially listed as Missing In Action (MIA). Memorials Madole was officially declared dead on June 5, 1943. He is memorialized at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) on the courts of the missin, court 4.
