USAAF Former Assignments ML-KNIL |
Aircraft History Built by Brewster Aeronautical Corporation as model B.339D in 1940. This aircraft was the first Model B.339D Buffalo purchased by the Militaire Luchtvaart van het Koninklijk Nederlands-Indisch Leger / Military Air Service of the Royal Netherlands East Indian Army (ML-KNIL) as Buffalo serial number B-3119. This Buffalo was test flown in the United States in Dutch markings and assigned civilian registration NX341B. During early 1942, disassembled and shipped overseas across the Pacific bound for the Dutch East Indies, but was instead diverted to Australia. Wartime History In Australia, one of twenty-one Model B.339D Buffaloes transferred to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) and painted in U.S. markings with "U.S. Army" on the lower wing. Assigned tail code 3119, the aircraft was never assigned a conventional USAAF serial number. Ultimate fate unknown. Believed to have been scrapped in Australia.
