Aircraft History Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Constructors Number 33295. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47B-35-DK Skytrain serial number 44-76963. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia. Wartime History During May 1945 delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as C-47B Dakota serial number A65-104. Australian call sign VH-RFU. On June 21, 1945 assigned to No. 36 Squadron with code RE-K. Postwar On December 25, 1974 damaged beyond repair by Cyclone Tracy that hit the Darwin area. Wreckage The tail and other remains of this aircraft are displayed outside the Australian Aviation Heritage Centre.
