Aircraft History Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Constructors Number 33304. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47B-35-DK Skytrain serial number 44-76972. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia. Wartime History During June 1945 delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as C-47B Dakota serial number A65-111 with call sign VH-RFY. Assigned to No. 37 Squadron with code OM-Y. No known nickname or nose art. Postwar On February 9, 1946, the aircraft force landed at Oodnadatta. All crew and passengers were unhurt. During 1972, listed for disposal. Afterwards, scrapped with the exception of the nose section. Starting in 1999, the nose section from this aircraft was placed on a car trailer and made appearances at the Avalon Airshow during 1999, 2001 and 2003.
