Aircraft History Built by Douglas at Santa Monica, CA. Constructors Number 4843. On December 2, 1941 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-53-DO Skytrooper serial number 41-20073. Wartime History On June 4, 1942 during the Battle of Midway photographed at Midway Airfield with the crew of B-26 "Susie-Q" 40-1391 after returning from their mission holding the nose art cut out of the damaged bomber. Postwar This aircraft was sold to the civilian market. On August 26, 1946 assigned to WAA and registered in the U.S. as NC68179 (Continental Airlines). Later registered as N310K with various owners. In 1974 registered to Cryderman Air Services in Pontaic, Michigan. On November 12, 1976 owned by Southern Flyer Inc. in Hattiesburg, MS. During June 1977 painted in early American Airlines (AA) markings for an advertising campaign. During September 1980 leased to Southern Air Transport. In October 1981 registration was canceled. Afterwards, this aircraft was stored at San Juan Airport in Puerto Rico. Ultimate fate unknown.
